Further to our news brief about Sarah Crichton leaving FSG at the end of the year to pursue other opportunities, when we queried the publisher about it last week they said there was no announcement. Now they have issued a statement, in which FSG publisher and president Jonathan Galassi says, “With her unique blend of enthusiasm, discernment and publishing talent, Sarah has been a beloved and energizing presence at FSG. Alysia Shewchuk has been promoted to senior designer at House of Anansi Press. Caroline Hayes has left Barnes & Noble, where she was most recently manager, cataloging and metadata. She may be reached at carolineahayes@gmail.com. Sarah Crichton will leave her position as publisher of Sarah Crichton Books at FSG at the end of this year. She established the imprint there in 2004. Correcting last week’s item, executive editor Carole DeSanti “has decided to depart from Viking,” but is not retiring. Carole DeSanti will leave Viking, where she is vp, executive editor, on June 1 after more than 30 years with the company “achieving a singular mixture of critical and commercial success and modeling the importance of the fierce editorial advocacy she offered all of her authors,” according to Viking publisher Andrea Schulz. Following the surprise annual meeting vote restoring co-founder Laurence Orbach as executive chairman of the Quarto board, company ceo Marcus Leaver has resigned his position. Chuk Kin Lau, who owns a 27-percent stake in the company and also joined the board in the recent will serve as interim ceo. Leaver said in the announcement: “I would like to thank everyone at Quarto for their hard work and resilience during my tenure as CEO.” Orbach writes: “The continued output of very high-quality books is a testament to Marcus’s leadership and an impressive demonstration of the strengths of Quarto’s talented employees. Awards Flights by Olga Tokarczuk, translated by Jennifer Croft, won the Booker International Prize. (Riverhead is scheduled to publish in the US on August 24.)
