Hans Christian Andersen Award jury president Anastasia Arkhipova has resigned from the 2024 award committee. Reuters reports that Arkhipova, a Russian illustrator, is on the board of the Moscow Branch of Artists Association of Russia (MOCX), which last year ran a contest for artists to create Russian war propaganda. Authors Guild Sues Small Press Over Royalties
The Authors Guild has filed suit on behalf of a group of authors against Authors Place Press and its owner, Tony Ferraro, for nonpayment. The complaint, filed in US District Court in Florida, alleges that Authors Place Press and its subsidiary Motivational Press failed to pay royalties and provide royalty statements to authors. In his annual letter to authors and agents sent on Friday, HBG ceo Michael Pietsch wrapped up 2022 and optimistically addressed the downturn of book sales, HBG’s efforts in DEI and fighting book bans, increased marketing efforts, and more. Pietsch explained that book sales overall are below the high numbers of 2021, “but still well above where they were before the pandemic.
