Former chairman of the William Morris Agency Norman Brokaw, 89, died on Saturday in Beverly Hills of complications from pneumonia. Brokaw started working in the WMA mailroom in 1943, when he was 15 — hired by his uncle Johnny Hyde. Radhika Jones has joined the New York Times as editorial director, books, reporting to Pamela Paul. Previously Jones was at Time Magazine, the last three years as deputy managing editor. In her new role, Jones will oversee all review coverage in The Times, both from The Times’s staff critics, and in the pages of the NYTBR. Leaked Pictures Indicate Nook Has Cheap 7″ Tablet Coming Soon
Although Nook stopped making its own tablets several years ago when they partnered with Samsung — and has failed to sell those co-branded Samsung tablets in any meaningful quantities — leaked documents indicate the company is working on a new tablet to be marketed and sold under its own brand name. FCC documents obtained by various gadget blogs indicate the new device, called the Nook Tablet 7″ BNTV450, is manufactured by Chinese company Shenzhen Jingwah. After being removed from her position as Register of Copyrights and appointed to a new senior advisor role, Maria Pallante has resigned instead, Politico reported. Her resignation was confirmed by an LOC spokesperson. On Friday, new Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden announced that the head of the Copyright Office Maria Pallante was being moved into a new position, senior advisor for digital strategy, where she “will support the Librarian’s agency-wide digital strategy, advising on collecting and preserving digital materials, collections copyright status, licensing opportunities and third-party collaborations related to digital content.” A search is being conducted for a new register of copyrights and Hayden said in the statement that “improved information technology for the office will be a top priority.” Karyn Temple Claggett serves as as acting register of copyrights.
