Some Macmillan Bestsellers Start Falling at Amazon, Rising at BN.com

January 30, 2010By Michael Cader

Working from posted online bestseller lists at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.com (and using historical data already captured through the PM Book Tracker), you can see that at least some Macmillan book sales would appear to already be shifting to BN.com from Amazon: * Andrew Young’s The Politician is down to 10 on Amazon’s list and falling, while ranking No. 4 at BN.com * Atul Gawande’s The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right is now at 49 on Amazon, down from 34 last night–and has risen from 112 up to 49 at BN.com in the same time period. * […]

October 23, 2009By Sarah Weinman

As of today, Nielsen Bookscan will supply data for three weekly book charts for the Wall Street Journal – Hardcover Fiction, Hardcover Non-fiction and Business – to run on Fridays, though they will not add unit sales data. The WSJ is the second paper to adopt Bookscan as its bestseller data provider (the Washington Post was the first.) Bookscan will also create additional, customized charts for WSJ.com around specific genres – this week it’s hardcover romance.WSJ Bestseller List Page

Kindle Krunching Returns

August 27, 2009By Sarah Weinman

After an absence of several weeks, we’re back to comparing the Kindle Top 10 versus the new USA Today chart, which now incorporates Kindle sales data. Most of the titles declined on the USAT list with the exception of Ronald Kessler’s In the President’s Secret Service, which posted big gains (reflected in the Kindle sales jump as well.) Here’s our chart, ranking the books according to their position on the Kindle bestseller list, with their USAT ranking and related data indicated first: [D} 4 South of Broad, Pat Conroy (Nan A. Talese/Doubleday)Last week: 2#1 KindleLast week: 1 [D] 28 The […]

Kindle Krunching: Week 3

August 5, 2009By Michael Cader

Once again, we’ve made a comparison of the Kindle Top 10 versus the new USA Today chart, now incorporating Kindle sales data. As in previous weeks, even with the help of top 10 Kindle sales most of these titles fell in their rankings this week. What’s notable this week is that the Kindle chart was topped by a digital-only title, and also includes Thorn Queen, a new mass market release that only ranks in the 800s among Amazon’s print titles. Here’s our chart, ranking the books according to their position on the Kindle bestseller list, with their USAT ranking and […]

Kindle Krunching: Week 2

July 30, 2009By Michael Cader

With a second week of data, we’re still looking for the impact (if any) of Kindle sales as reflected in the broader USA Today chart. As was the case last week, Kathryn Stockett does seems to be getting a big Kindle boost. Almost every other title on the Kindle Top 10 declined overall in the USA Today list, though. Daniel Silva and Jennifer Weiner had the top two hardcover fiction titles for the week, but Weiner did less well relatively with the Kindle audience. Here’s our chart, ranking the books according to their position on the Kindle bestseller list, with […]
