Children’s Publishing: Executives Buy Bonnier’s US Children’s Lines; Sourcebooks Adds Three Imprints

January 16, 2019By Michael Cader

Continuing last year’s developments that saw changes in leadership at Bonnier Books’ English-language divisions and a slimming of their lines (including the sale of Weldon Owen to Insight Editions), the company has sold the children’s publishing lines that comprised Bonnier Books USA. CEO Shimul Tolia and cfo Thomas Morgan have bought the division from Bonnier Books. Tolia and Morgan founded Little Bee in 2014, as the first part of Bonnier Books US. The company will continue to publish under the established three imprints: Little Bee Books, BuzzPop, and Yellow Jacket. They will remain in their current offices, and continued to be distributed by […]

YA: Abrams Cancels Graphic Novel; Lerner Acquires Zest Books

November 26, 2018By Erin Somers

Abrams has cancelled publication of controversial graphic novel A SUICIDE BOMBER SITS IN THE LIBRARY by writer Jack Gantos and illustrator Dave McKean, which was to be released in May 2019. Abrams said in a statement, “While the intention of the book was to help broaden a discussion about the power of literature to change lives for the better, we recognize the harm and offense felt by many at a time when stereotypes breed division, rather than discourse.” The cancellation follows posts on Twitter by Zainab […]

HarperCollins Will Lower TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Trade Paperback Price For Schools

March 15, 2016By Sarah Weinman

HarperCollins announced Tuesday afternoon that it will offer the trade paperback edition of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird at a lower price through its accounts that sell directly to K-12 schools in the US.
