Distribution: New Publishers for Consortium
Starting January 1, Alabaster Creative Inc., Autumn House Press, Hagfish, Hemeria, LittlePuss Press, and Tilted Axis Press will be sold and distributed by Consortium. In addition, Aunt Lute Books has been sold and distributed by Consortium since June 29.
Distribution: Six to IPG
Starting January 1, Independent Publishers Group will start distributing Siglo XXI Editores worldwide, PAPP International in the US, and Rupa Publications and Editorial Patmos in the US and Canada. On March 1, 2025, The Little Press will be distributed worldwide by IPG. Additionally, Bruna Publishing is distributed by IPG as of September 1.
After SPD’s Closure, Independent Presses Find Distribution Solutions
Last March, the indie press world was rocked by the abrupt closure of Small Press Distribution, which had operated since 1969 and represented about 300 client publishers. The company cited declining sales and loss of grant support as the reasons for the shuttering. Its 300,000-book inventory was transferred to Ingram Content Group, and many presses were left in a bind, without a distributor or access to inventory data, and in some cases had to pay to have their stock returned to them. Distributor Bankruptcy Leaves Verso Owed £1 Million
Following the bankruptcy of distributor Marston Book Services and its parent company United Independent Distributors, publisher Verso posted online that Marston owes the publisher £1 million in book sales dating back to January, which they are unlikely to recover. The company has launched a Kickstarter campaign to cover some of the loss.
