Obituaries Longtime Knopf editor, translator, and director of foreign rights Carol Brown Janeway, 71, died early Monday morning at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, two weeks after being diagnosed with late-stage cancer. Juan Felipe Herrera has been named Poet Laureate, the first Latino writer to receive the honor since its inception in 1936. Librarian of Congress James H. BEA reported attendance data for the recent show in New York, and the numbers were consistent with the last couple of years. Professional attendance was down 1.2 percent, at 10,832 people (down by 133); with exhibitors included, overall attendance was up 5.2 percent, with 20,895 people.
