Flatiron Books editorial director Colin Dickerman will move over within Macmillan to Farrar, Straus as vp and executive editor as of September 18. Dickerman had already acquired and edited some fiction for FSG, including Paul Beatty’s Booker-winning The Sellout, since when he first joined Flatiron it was a nonfiction line. Flatiron founder Bob Miller said, “I’m so grateful to Colin for being such an important part of the first four years of Flatiron Books. Jacqui Small will step down as group publisher for her eponymous imprint at Quarto at the end of 2017, after which she will work part-time as publisher at large. The imprint has been part of Quarto since 2004, following their acquisition of Aurum Press. Tina Pohlman left her position as publisher of Open Road in late July, the latest veteran executive to leave the company, which she joined in early 2012. Philip Rappaport is acting publisher, and Libby Jordan will join the company in the new role of executive director, marketing operations. Most recently she was vp, marketing at Bookshout, and has been an advisor to Open Road for many years. Michiko Kakutani, the chief book critic for the New York Times, is stepping down from that position after 38 years. She says she is “moving on to focus on longer pieces about politics and culture, though I will always love and write about books.” (Vanity Fair indicates she is among those taking a voluntary buyout from the paper, which the NYT neglects to include in their own reporting.) At Scholastic Trade, Megan Peace has been promoted to associate editor. Mara Lander has joined as senior marketing director for licensed publishing and brand management. She was previously executive director for licensing and brand management for Little, Brown Children’s. Sarah Jacobson has joined Scholastic as assistant production editor. Most recently, she was freelancing at Scholastic and has held previous positions at Melville House and Kennebec Publishing. Carolyn Bull has joined as designer for licensed publishing. She was associate features editor at Harper’s Bazaar. Susan Ellingwood moves over to the group in August from the Opinion section.
