The new distribution “affiliate” of Publishers Group West run by Mark Suchomel, Legato Publishers Group, announced 20 publishers that have signed on as clients. All will start with Legato on January 1, 2014, except for Buffalo Media Works, which will use Legao to sell and distribute their books immediately. All 20 also have been clients of IPG, where Suchomel worked for 27 years until he was dismissed in March. Sandi Kirshner has been named chief marketing officer at Cengage, working out of the company’s Boston office. Previously she was evp, higher education policy at Pearson. Quarto has entered into a number of distribution agreements with Hachette UK and US for several of its imprints. Quayside Publishing Group will be distributed by Hachette US effective January 1, 2014, and Hachette UK subsidiary Littlehampton Book Services as of July 1. Littlehampton will also distribute Aurum Publishing Group titles as of September.

Former IPG distribution executive Mark Suchomel has joined Perseus Books Group’s distribution client services group and will run a new division based in Chicago, Legato Publishing Group. Children’s: Joyce and Moonbot Studios Launch Atheneum Line; Jim Carrey Pairs with Perseus
William Joyce and Moonbot Studios (which he co-founded) are building on the success of the picture book The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (based on their bestselling app) with a whole line of Moonbot Books, for Atheneum. The line launches with The Mischievians this fall and aims to publish “at least one or two books per season,” including a picture book based on their successful app The Numberlys.
