Simon & Schuster Starts to Recover; ABA Among Those With Outages
As of Friday morning Simon & Schuster’s data services (including e-mail) have been restored and their distribution center is “fully operational,” after spending Thursday taking orders via PubEasy, PubNet, corporate EDI, and fax. A company spokesperson tells us there were “major round the clock efforts from the folks there, and our operations and IT staff to bring us back up. Random House‘s Maryland distribution center, which shut down for 30 hours Monday night because of the mega-storm, was back in full operation as of Tuesday evening. The company is authorizing weekend overtime for its fulfillment staff to attend to any outstanding back orders. Ingram also experienced a brief interruption in services due to power outages, but told Shelf Awareness its distribution center in Chambersburg, PA and print-on-demand center in Allentown, PA “are up and running on schedule,” and it is “working closely with carriers” to get service restored to areas currently made inaccessible by the storm. Profile Books has bought Birmingham-based publisher Tindal Street Press, which will become an imprint at the publishing house as of November 1, overseen by Serpent’s Tail publisher Hannah Westland. University of North Carolina Press editor-in-chief David Perry intends to retire in March 2013 after 34 years with the publishing house. He was named editor-in-chief in 1995. At Counterpoint and Soft Skull Press, Earlita Chenault has been hired for the new position of publicity manager. She was most recently publicity manager at New Harbinger Publications, where she worked for nine years.
