Kensington Publishing has acquired sci-fi/fantasy publisher Erewhon Books, which will continue as an imprint of Kensington. Publisher Sarah Guan and her team will stay with the line. (Co-founder Liz Gorinsky left Erewhon in March.) Imprints: Oliver Rhodes Launches Storm Publishing
Bookouture founder and former ceo Oliver Rhodes has launched Storm Publishing, a new digital publishing company that will “publish adult commercial fiction in ebook, audio and print-on-demand paperback globally,” looking to buy world English rights at a minimum. The company writes in a release that it plans to pay “an author royalty of 50% of net receipts on both ebook and audio formats,” though they do not pay advances. Alcon Publishing Expands Partnership with Titan Books
Alcon Publishing, the publishing division of production company Alcon Entertainment, will expand its partnership with Titan Books to publish fiction beginning in 2023. Penguin Random House will distribute the books in North America. The two companies have been working together on comics, graphic novels and art books since 2018. Four titles are already in progress, with the first, Suborbital 7 by John Shirley, publishing in March. The companies plan to publish two or three novels a year. Portfolio will launch Thesis, a new imprint which will publish “urgent idea-driven nonfiction by thought leaders, journalists, and experts with a strong point of view.” The first list will publish in spring 2023 with Struggle Sessions by Nellie Bowles, and future authors include activist Laila Mickelwait, journalist Matt Taibbi, “America’s government teacher” Sharon McMahon, and evolutionary psychologist Diana Fleischman. The imprint will be led by Sentinel editorial director Bria Sandford and Portfolio editor-in-chief Niki Papadopoulos. Nosy Crow to Launch US Company
UK children’s publisher Nosy Crow will launch a US company, with books first publishing in May 2023. Nosy Crow Inc. will publish books for ages 0-12, including board books and middle grade nonfiction, and will be distributed by Hachette Book Group. All picture and board books will feature free audio downloads. John Mendelson is president of the new company. Loyola Press is launching 4U2B Books & Media, a new imprint “to help children, parents, educators, and lifelong learners thrive with a sense of place and purpose.” In addition to children’s books, they will publish select titles for adults. First titles include two children’s books by Mark K. Shriver, which will be released in September 2022 and 2023, respectively.
