James Patterson Launches New Children’s Imprint
James Patterson will launch a new dedicated children’s imprint, jimmy patterson, at longtime publisher Little, Brown, that will release eight to 12 middle-grade and young adult titles annually (4-6 of those titles will be Patterson’s, with the other acquisitions to be overseen by him.) “We’re not going to buy a lot of books, but if we buy them, we’re going to publish them with gusto,” Patterson told the NYT in advance of the official announcement at BEA Friday morning. Atheneum editorial director Caitlyn Dlouhy will start an an eponymous imprint, Caitlyn Dlouhy Books, scheduled to begin publishing in spring 2016. With the new title of editorial director, Caitlyn Dlouhy Books, she will continue to report to publisher Justin Chanda. The new line will publish approximately 20 books a year, ranging from picture books to young adult. Chanda says it is “a celebration of quality books for kids, and also a celebration of one of the publishing industry’s finest editors.” Dlouhy first joined Atheneum in 1998. Faber to Launch US Line in 2016 with PGW and Perseus
Following Faber and Faber’s termination of their US publishing partnership with FSG in February, the company has announced plans to launch their directly-published new US line in spring 2016, distributed by PGW. Faber intends to publish 60 new titles a year in the US, along with issuing a backlist of over 1,000 titles. The company will “hire dedicated marketing and publicity resources” to support the new program, co-locating those new hires with the Perseus Books Group.
