Science fiction & fantasy community website Tor.com is expanding its original fiction output with a new imprint devoted to publishing novellas, shorter novels, serializations, and other pieces of fiction exceeding 18,000 words. According to a blog post by the imprint, each DRM-free title will be available exclusively for purchase, and will also be available via POD and audio formats. A “select number of titles” will be considered for traditional print publishing as well. Atria Joins with UTA for Keywords Press Imprint, Publishing “Digital Influencers”
Atria Publishing Group has paired with United Talent Agency a launch an imprint “specifically created to publish digital influencers” — and YouTube stars in particular — called Keywords Press. The line aims to publish 6 to 10 titles a year, and it promises “new business, creative development and marketing models designed in recognition and celebration of the unique relationship between digital stars” and their fans. Duggan to Set Up Line At Crown
Longtime HarperCollins executive editor Tim Duggan will move to Crown on June 9 where he will serve as publisher of his own Tim Duggan Books imprint. He will publish 8 to 10 titles a year, “evenly split between nonfiction and fiction,” reporting to Molly Stern. Just about a year ago Alloy Entertainment paired with Amazon as the first big licensee in the Kindle Worlds fan fiction initiative, and in February Alloy added more licenses to the program. Now, PL has learned via our comprehensive deal reports that Alloy is starting a book imprint as part of the “Powered By Amazon” initiative. Corporate News: A Food52 Imprint, F+W Rebrands, Time Home Entertainment Sales Go In-House
Food52, the social website for cooks founded by Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs, will set up a cookbook imprint at Ten Speed Press called Food52 Works. Hesser and Stubbs will be involved “in shaping the development and direction” of the line, for which Ten Speed associate publisher Hannah Rahill will be general editor. The initiative delivers on the promise the site made a year ago to “expand our publishing platform through an innovative partnership with Random House Inc.,” after Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments was a significant contributor to a $2 million financing round for Food52. Lindsay Sagnette has been promoted to editorial director for Crown and Hogarth, reporting to Molly Stern. In her new role Sagnette will help shape the overall Crown fiction list, while continuing to acquire and edit her own books. Newly reporting to Sagnette are senior editor Zack Wagman; editor Julian Pavia; associate editor Christine Kopprasch; and senior editor Alexis Washam, who will now take on an expanded role in acquiring trade paperback originals for Broadway Books in addition to her existing duties as US editor for the Hogarth Shakespeare and acquiring hardcover titles for Crown and Hogarth.
