Hachette Book Group has announced four new partnerships with the goal of “supporting a broader community of emerging writers and early and mid-career publishing professionals from diverse backgrounds.” A partnership with The City College of New York, the CCNY+HBG Associates Program, will provide a salaried, full-time, year-long work experience at HBG for a recent graduate of the college’s Publishing Program. Dutch Publisher Recalls Anne Frank Book After Historians’ Report
Ambo Anthos, Dutch publisher of The Betrayal of Anne Frank by Rosemary Sullivan, has recalled the book following a report that discredits the research. In January, the publisher had suspended further printing of the book pending further investigation. The book was based on research by a cold case team, led by a retired FBI investigator, and accused Jewish notary Arnold van den Bergh as the most likely person to have betrayed the Frank family and led to their capture. Two British Publishers Self-Censor Books Printed in China
Two British publishers have edited books that are printed in China based on Chinese regulations on free speech, the Financial Times reports. The titles from Quarto and Hachette UK’s Octopus Books were manufactured for western distribution but, like many illustrated books from US and UK presses, produced in China because it’s cheaper to print there. Since 2020, in separate books Quarto has removed references to Hong Kong and dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.
