Bookselling: Murder on the Beach To Close
The owners of South Florida’s Murder on the Beach bookstore announced on Twitter that the store will close on April 15 after 25 years in business: “Although we have tried our best to keep the store alive, Covid and its aftermath have done us in,” they write. “Thank you to all our customers, friends and authors who have supported and helped us over the years. Twenty five years is a good run, and we have enjoyed every minute of it.”

Yale Publishing Course Suspended “For the Foreseeable Future”
The Yale School of Management Executive Education announced that it will not host the week-long Yale Publishing Course, due to the pandemic. “Sadly, due to the shifting industry landscape and repercussions of the global pandemic, Yale Executive Education will not be hosting the Yale Publishing Course for the foreseeable future,” the announcement said. “We’re grateful you considered the Yale Publishing Course for your professional development and encourage you to seek possible alternatives.” Yale began the course in 2010 as a successor to the Stanford Publishing Course after it was closed, and last hosted it in 2019. Tattered Cover Employees Air Grievances with New CEO
Two lengthy articles, first in the Denverite and now in The Denver Post, have documented significant complaints from employees at Denver Bookstore chain The Tattered Cover and continuing friction with new ceo Kwame Spearman. Staff have reportedly been voicing concerns about pay, increased responsibilities and burnout for months, as the store has expanded rapidly into new locations and pop-ups. Spearman took over in December 2020, when he and investor group Bended Page LLC bought the store from co-owners Len Vlahos and Kristen Gilligan.
