Book Expo featured a trio of political figures on stages Thursday evening and Friday morning, starting with Senator Bernie Sanders. He spoke about his forthcoming book Where We Go From Here, which he described as an account of his activities since the 2016 election, and what he sees as the future of the progressive movement. He said, “since the election we’ve been fighting for a progressive agenda and there is no debate that we’ve been winning.” He named as his goals “developing an agenda that speaks to the needs of working families” and getting more people involved in the political […]

Trump Administration Offers Level Playing Field For Copyright Law
At Book Expo’s Wednesday morning State of the Industry: Publishing and Copyright Policy, participants were in agreement on something to like about the Trump administration: It has offered a level playing field for copyright policy so far. This is seen as a shift from the Obama administration, which was, as Copyright Alliance ceo Keith Kuperschmidt put it, “somewhat enamored with Silicon Valley,” and Google in particular. “We played a lot of defense” during the Obama administration, he added, while with the current administration, “we’re still in a wait and see mode.” Kuperschmidt noted that no copyright bills passed the House during the […]

Greer Is Surprise Pulitzer Fiction Winner
The Pulitzer Prizes were announced Monday afternoon, with LESS by Andrew Sean Greer winning the fiction prize. (Christopher Buckley had written in the NYT last July: “Convulsed in laughter a few pages into Andrew Sean Greer’s fifth novel, Less, I wondered with regret why I wasn’t familiar with this author. My bad. His admirers have included John Updike, Michael Chabon, Dave Eggers and John Irving. Less is the funniest, smartest and most humane novel I’ve read since Tom Rachman’s 2010 debut, The Imperfectionists.”) LESS is the rare fiction winner that was not prominent among other awards nominees or “best of the year” […]
