On Monday morning, Lit Hub published a lengthy piece by writer Jumi Bello titled, “I Plagiarized Parts of My Debut Novel. Here’s Why.” Her debut novel The Leaving was cancelled by Riverhead earlier this year over plagiarized passages. Lit Hub took the essay down just hours later, due to “inconsistencies.” Shortly thereafter, Twitter users noted a paragraph in the essay itself closely resembled text from other sources, including articles about the history of plagiarism. Bonnier Launches Audio Imprint
Bonnier Books UK has launched Twelve Point Audio, an imprint for original podcasts and audio content. Accusations of Inappropriate Use of Funds at Tavern Books
The announcement of a $10,000 fellowship awarded to Oregon poet Carl Adamshick has surfaced a controversy over allegations of inappropriate use of funds at now-shuttered small press Tavern Books. Adamshick was the cofounder and director of the Portland-based nonprofit press until his resignation in 2019. The press shut down in 2020.
