Finding out the actual sales for a book—whether it’s your own title, or a comp title you are curious about—can be quite difficult. The gold-standard data service publishers, retailers and agents use to track actual retail sales of trade print books in the US is Bookscan. Simon & Schuster Also Formalizes Work from Home Instructions; New York and Seattle Libraries to Close

ViacomCBS and its Simon & Schuster division moved from testing remote work on Friday to a formal, “company-wide, mandatory work-from-home policy until further notice.” S&S ceo Carolyn Reidy asked staff in a memo, “Please continue to treat today and Monday as days to test your capabilities and note issues and obstacles you encounter in fulfilling your day to day responsibilities. Author Luis Sepulveda Contracted COVID-19 At Portugese Literary Festival

Chilean writer Luis Sepulveda, who lives in northern Spain, has contracted COVID-19, according to local health authorities. He began to show symptoms on February 25 after returning home from the Correntes d’Escritas festival, held from February 15 through February 23, in Northern Portugal. The regional government said he is “stable” and indicated his wife is “also displaying the symptoms and is being tested.” Portuguese authorities are reportedly trying to make contact with the people who attended the festival. Italy’s GeMS Also Cancels London Book Fair Plans, Calls Right Centers “The Nightmare of Epidemiologists”

Italy’s large trade publisher Gruppo Mauri Spagnol announced that it “will give up coming to the London Book Fair” this year, even though all of their employees remain healthy. “A sacrifice that we have been asked by the government to contain the phenomenon, the fruits of which should be seen within a few weeks. John Bolton’s Manuscript Is Leaked, to Underscore Any Testimony Would Support Impeachment Case

Portions of the book manuscript from $2 million patriot John Bolton have been leaked. “Associates” of his indicate to the NYT that “he believes he has relevant information, and he has also expressed concern that if his account of the Ukraine affair emerges only after the trial, he will be accused of holding back to increase his book sales.
