Bookscan   

Circana has announced organizational adjustments, as a result of which Jonathan Stolper will depart after 13 years heading the Bookscan business. As of February 1, client development executive director David Walter will lead the US books business, which will be part of Circana’s entertainment sector.

Under Stolper’s leadership, Bookscan introduced their ebook POS system, developed dozens of national bestseller charts, and launched book POS licensing and digital audio tracking services, while also creating a thought leadership program of advanced analytics, forecasting, and insights.

He also oversaw and partnered with Publishers Marketplace in developing our ever-growing roster of programs offering book sales data to agents, authors, and other independent publishing professionals.

Simon & Schuster   

The company plans to launch a currently unnamed business imprint. They are currently looking for someone with experience publishing “books about technology, personal development, economics, entrepreneurship, [and] business narrative.”

Berkley   

Danielle Keir has been promoted to assistant director of publicity.

Kim Salina-I has been promoted to marketing associate.

Alicia Ross has been promoted to digital marketing associate.

Hillary Tacuri has been promoted to marketing associate.

Workman Publishing   

Suet Chong has been promoted to creative director at Artisan and Workman. Chong takes on the role following the retirement of Vaughn Andrews at the end of 2023.

Countryman Press   

Emma Peters has joined as assistant editor. She was most recently managing editor at PowerHouse Books.

Zando   

Lexy Cassola has joined as a senior editor acquiring mystery/suspense/horror and book club fiction. She was previously at Dutton.

Natalie Ullman has joined as associate director of social media. She was previously senior content marketing manager at Banza.

Sourcebooks   

Mary Altman was promoted to assistant editorial director for Sourcebooks Casablanca and Poisoned Pen Press.

Liv Turner was promoted to assistant editor of adult fiction and nonfiction.

Rama Kandel has joined as data engineer.

BINC   

Publisher of Our Daily Bread Publishing Chriscynethia Floyd, former CEO of Abrams Books Michael Jacobs and co-owner of the Norwich Bookstore Emma Nichols have joined the organization’s board.

David Halpern Literary Management   

David Halpern has launched David Halpern Literary Management. He will continue to work with his clients and represent nonfiction across a number of genres, as well as adult literary and commercial fiction. Halpern was previously agent and vice president at The Robbins Office.

Andrea Brown Literary Agency   
Kelly Sonnack has been promoted to executive agent, and is now a member of the management team.
The Rights Factory   

Tamanna Bhasin joins as assistant agent.

Jennifer Chevais has been promoted to associate agent.
Tor.com   

On Jan. 23, the Tor.com online magazine will rebrand to Reactor. Reactor will publish daily commentary on sci-fi, fantasy, horror, romance, and more, and will continue to publish short fiction.

President and publisher of Tor Publishing Group Devi Pillai said in the announcement, “We have always been the place to come to for science fiction and fantasy—but with a new name, a new design, we are going to have a magazine that will be more of a pop culture hub for people who love genre of all types. We want to expand the audience and the community that Tor.com has built over the past 15 years.”

Director of Tor.com Chris Lough said, “Oh, how we have waited for this day. For the past 15 years we have published discerning yet joyful works of media criticism, along with award-winning short fiction and art. Now, starting in 2024, the look and functionality of our magazine’s website will finally match the maturity of our contributors and the needs of our community.”
