Vinci Books

Charlie Redmayne has joined Vinci Books as ceo. The publisher calls itself “a world-class publisher for independent authors,” and is the latest venture from serial publishing entrepreneur Mark Smith, who co-founded Welbeck Publishing, and was the founder of Zaffre and Quercus. Redmayne was previously longtime ceo at Harper Collins UK, before abruptly resigning in 2025.

Redmayne will report into the board of directors. Former ceo Smith becomes executive chairman, to focus on strategy and new business development. Redmayne says in the announcement, “Throughout my career I have looked to embrace technology and digital change to create vanguard businesses. Vinci Books is doing precisely that. This is a great opportunity for me, along with Vinci’s excellent team, to lead the company into its next exciting phase of growth and to really deliver for our authors and our customers.” (This is Redmayne’s first public statement of any kind since he left Harper UK.)

Vinci is funded in part by Venrex, an early-stage venture capital firm.
