FSG president and publisher Mitzi Angel announced to staff Thursday morning that, “We have made the very difficult decision to close the MCD publishing program.” She adds: “It is with deep regret that, as a result, we have agreed to part ways with Sean McDonald,” who will depart April 15. “I know this is very hard news to receive, as Sean has brought us extraordinary books and has been a wonderful colleague.”
Angel writes: “The decision was made as we take stock of the financial realities of our business to ensure that we are well-positioned for future growth of the company. After much thought, we have decided to redirect our attention to FSG’s core programming….” McDonald joined FSG in 2010 and launched the MCD imprint in 2017.
Angel notes, “FSG remains deeply committed to adventure; to publishing a wide variety of unexpected, exhilarating and thought-provoking books across a range of categories and genres.”
Associate editor Benjamin Brooks will now report to Jackson Howard.
