Pamela Paul

Now writer at large at the WSJ, Paul was mentioned in a NY Magazine story on the growing NYT Opinion fiefdom, which asserted: “While there has been speculation that Paul was fired for her controversial views, she was let go for performance issues after undergoing a job review and a switch in editors that didn’t result in the improvement management was hoping for.”

Paul posted, “I have refrained from commenting publicly about the circumstances of my departure from The New York Times because I think my work speaks for itself and the truth will out. But when New York magazine falsely prints that I was fired, rather than that I departed as part of a reduction in force, and falsely claims that I was let go for performance issues and then refuses a demand for a retraction and refutation from The New York Times, the record must be corrected.” Her official statement read, “I was hired as a columnist to report and opine on challenging issues, which became politically uncomfortable for The Times. The truth is hard, but these are the facts.”

NY Mag reporter Charlotte Klein posted back, “There has been no request for a retraction from the Times.”
