President Jonathan Shar has been promoted to CEO, following the resignation of Michael Huseby. New board chair William Martin of Immersion Corporation says in the announcement, “Jonathan brings great experience and passion for the Barnes & Noble Education business. The opportunity to serve our academic partners and the millions of students who visit our stores each year is boundless. Jonathan is just the leader we need to unlock the future growth and profitability potential of this business.”

Shar joined BNED in 2018.

Hachette Book Group   

In marketing:
Saimah Haque is promoted to senior director, consumer marketing.

Medina Cekovic will be moving into a newly created position of ecommerce marketing manager.

Laurel Stokes will be moving into a newly created position of director of metadata strategy & consumer insights.

Jan Rosenberg is joining HBG’s marketing strategy team as metadata and merchandising associate.

In sales:
Laura Pennock joins as vp of mass merch, wholesale, and library marketing on June 24. Pennock was most recently at Macmillan where she oversaw the mass merch, wholesale, and distribution channels.

Nicky Devaney joins as director of field sales on June 17. Most recently, Devaney was director of field sales at Penguin Random House, working on the Penguin list.

Harper Collins   

SVP, rights and permissions Juliette Shapland will retire on July 31 after 26 years with the company.

Jean McGinley will become SVP, rights and permissions, effective July 29.

Park Row Books   

Nicole Luongo has been promoted to assistant editor.
