In the Eataly food and wine center opening at the end of August in the former Toy Building on lower Fifth Avenue in New York, led by Lidia and Joseph Bastianich and Mario Batali, Rizzoli Bookstore will be the exclusive bookseller. They will also manage book signings by chefs giving classes and demonstrations in the space. Bowker Parent Takes Stake In LibraryThing

LibraryThing has sold a minority interest in the enterprise to Cambridge Information Group, which owns Bowker (as well as AquaBrowser, ProQuest, Serials Solutions and RefWorks). LT’s Tim Spalding writes on his blog that a key factor was “moola.” He notes, “LibraryThing has been profitable for a while, but we didn’t have much of a cushion. It was a nail-biter. The Horn Book, Inc.–the Boston-based publisher of The Horn Book Magazine and The Horn Book Guide, which review over 4,000 children’s books annually–has been acquired by Ohio’s Media Source, best-known for their Junior Library Guild review and selection service for children’s and YA books. Author Solutions, which already gobbled up competitor iUniverse, has now acquired Xlibris, too. The company says the combined lists now comprise almost 100,000 titles from 70,000 authors. CEO Kevin Weiss says “Xlibris brings a demonstrated expertise in marketing services, which perfectly complements the strength of AuthorHouse’s publishing and illustration services and iUniverse’s industry-leading editorial services. Both first-time and mid-list authors, writing in all genres, will find one of our brands offers the services they need to accomplish their publishing goals.” The addition brings takes their annual title count from about 12,000 up to 19,000, and still growing. Nicholas Brealey Publishing has bought Davies-Black Publishing, a line of books about business and career management, from CPP, Inc (formerly Consulting Psychologists Press). The Davies-Black list of approximately 115 books will continue to be distributed by NBN, which also distributes Nicholas Brealey in the US and Canada. Ingram Digital ceo James Gray is moving over to chief strategy officer for all of Ingram’s content groups, as svp Mike Lovett moves up to CEO of Ingram Digital. Kaplan Acquires Cleveland Clinic Press Assets

Kaplan Publishing has acquired “the majority of the assets” of the Cleveland Clinic Press, including 29 titles in the Cleveland Clinic Guides health reference line, and seven other books. The guides comprise “consumer health books written by Cleveland Clinic experts in various subject areas.” Started in 2005, the press’s staff was disbanded last spring.
