Picador USA associate editor PJ Horoszko, 27, died unexpectedly March 2 in Brooklyn. Stephen Morrison, Picador Publisher, said in a statement: “PJ was a wonderful young editor on the rise with a keen eye, boundless curiosity, and fierce advocacy on behalf of his authors. He was also an absolute pleasure to work with. Official: Ingram to Buy Perseus Distribution Companies
As we reported on Tuesday was said to be in the works, Perseus Books Group has now followed their deal to sell the company’s publishing imprints to Hachette Book Group with a second binding agreement to sell their distribution businesses — Perseus Distribution, PGW, Consortium, Legato, Constellation and their share in the Faber Factory by Constellation joint venture — to Ingram Content Group. The deal is expected to close at the end of March, at the same time as the HBG deal (though there is no indication of an expectation that Ingram’s purchase will require regulatory approval). Barnes & Noble Earnings Gain On Lower eBook Losses; Nook Drops UK, Apps and Video
Barnes & Noble reported results for the fiscal third quarter ending January 30 — including the big holiday period when the company makes most of its money for the year. Sales of $1.414 billion were down $26 million (or 1.8 percent), “due to lower online sales and store closures” on the retail side, plus the unstoppable decline of Nook. Retail sales, at BN stores and BN.com, fell 1.2 percent overall — but same store sales were up, barely, 0.2 percent on “the continued strength of adult coloring books, as well as our Toys & Games, music and gift businesses.” That’s in line […]

AAP eBook Decline Deepens In October Report
The AAP reported sales for October 2015 as tabulated by their pool of approximately 1,200 publishers. After a strong September report (up over 7 percent), October’s results returned more to the year’s norm, a little above flat. Trade sales of $769 million were up $14 million, or less than two percent, from October 2014. Adult sales of $549 million were down $2 million with gains in hardcovers, paperbacks and digital audio weighed down by losses in mass market and ebooks.
