In addition, Niki Papadopoulos has been promoted to executive editor. Springer Nature has promoted Steven Inchcoombe to the new role of chief publishing officer, and he will join the company’s board. Penguin Random House Sales Rise On Currency Boost

Bertelsmann reported 2015 sales on Tuesday morning, with headline results for Penguin Random House showing sales of €3.717 billion — up 393 million — and operating ebitda of €557 million, up €105 million. (Note that we mentioned throughout 2015 that the rising dollar alone could lift PRH’s sales by €350 million to €400 million or more, which was pretty much on target.) Trade Sales Continued Gains In November, With eBook Sales Still Falling

The AAP reported sales for November 2015 as tabulated by their pool of approximately 1,200 publishers. While the October report was more or less flat, November was in keeping with sales gains seen in September. Trade sales for the month of $674 million were up $56 million, or 9 percent, from November 2014. Adult sales of $481 million were up $42 million with gains in hardcovers, digital audio, and trade paperbacks in particular (up 31.4 percent from a year ago) weighed down by losses in mass market and ebooks. James Patterson’s BookShots for “People Who Don’t Have Time to Read”

James Patterson announced his newest project, BookShots, a line of books 150 pages or less that will be published by longtime publisher Little, Brown and sold for under $5 each, available in print, digital and audio formats. The NYT reports BookShots “would be aimed at readers who might not want to invest their time in a 300- or 400-page novel” and “might even appeal to people who do not normally read at all.” Little, Brown plans 21 Bookshots for 2016, starting in June with Patterson’s Cross Kill,  Zoo II, written by Patterson and Max DiLallo, and Chase, co-written with Michael Ledwidge. Rosato says in the announcement, “OverDrive’s significant growth, specifically internationally, aligns perfectly with my industry experience and relationships.
