People, Etc.

April 6, 2016
By Sarah Weinman

Stacy Creamer will join Regan Arts as svp, executive editor on April 15. Most recently she was executive editor at Hachette Books and before then was publisher at Touchstone.

Andy Hunter has been named publisher of LitHub.com, overseeing the growing site — which is a collaboration between Hunter’s Electric Literature and Grove/Atlantic. (Hunter also serves as publisher of Catapult.)

Krishan Trotman has joined Hachette Books as senior editor. Previously she was a senior editor at Skyhorse. In addition, Hallie Patterson moves over to Hachette Books as publicity and marketing manager, from Little, Brown Children’s.

At Chronicle Books, Molly Krauss has been promoted to senior business analyst, while Lynda Zuber Sassi moves up to director of national specialty, mass market, premium, and licensing sales.

Stats
BookNet Canada released their annual compilation of industry stats, with the country’s print book market looking a lot like the US in 2015: Unit book sales of 52.6 million were barely up, by 0.8 percent, with dollar sales growing a little more, at $983.4 million up 1.6 percent. The growth came from nonfiction up 5.5 percent in units, “largely owing to adult coloring books.” Children’s books declined by 1.1 percent in units, comprising 37.1 percent of books sold.

Acquisitions
Peter Owen Publishers will acquire Istros Books, which focuses on contemporary literature from Southeast Europe, in August. Founding director Susan Curtis-Kojakovic will become associate publisher at Peter Owen, while retaining editorial control over the Istros imprint. The first collaborative project will be a brand-new series launching in November and focusing on three books in translation from Slovenia from authors Evald Flisar, Jela Krečič and Dušan Šarotar.

Macmillan Learning has acquired WriterKEY, an online application designed to improve the teaching, learning, and assessment of writing across the curriculum.

Sales & Distribution

Harvard University Press is joining the Columbia Sales Consortium for sales representation in the US and Canada as of September 1, 2016.
