Sloane Crosley will join Vanity Fair as a contributing editor, writing the monthly Hot Type column, as Elissa Schappell leaves the magazine after 20 years of writing that column to work on a book project. Crosley’s first column will appear in the October issue. Meghan Deans will join Ecco on June 13 as marketing director. She has been at Little, Brown, most recently as director of social media. At Clarkson Potter, Kim Tyner has been promoted to assistant production director. Harper Christian reports that longtime employee and vp of custom product development Joseph “Scott” Harvey, 52, died on Friday after a five-month battle to cancer. Harvey joined Thomas Nelson as a national accounts manager in May 2000. SVP of sales Tom Knight says, “Our friendship surpassed just being colleagues, as did most that ever had the opportunity to work with Scott. Barnes & Noble at NYC’s Citicorp to Close As Building Renovates

Barnes & Noble’s midtown Manhattan store at the Citicorp building will close at the end of the month, as owner Boston Properties undertakes a renovation of the base and has declined to renew the bookseller’s lease. BN’s vice president of development David Deason indicates to Crain’s that they are in discussions about returning to the space after the renovations are completed, though previously Boston Properties president Douglas Linde had indicated “that the real estate company wanted to empty out the six-story retail and commercial base of the building and bring in higher-end food options and outdoor terraces.”

$400 Million In Consumer eBook Settlement Credits Should Flow Later In June

After the Supreme Court declined to hear Apple’s appeal of the 2013 ebook antitrust ruling in March, the big question has been when the $400 million in compensation to consumers (plus $50 million in attorney fees) as stipulated in the previous settlement with the state attorneys general and the consumer class would be disbursed. Because of a potential Supreme Court appeal from a “professional objector” to the settlement, attorneys were “hoping” to see payment to ebook purchasers “by fall of 2016.” Now partner Shana Scarlett at Hagens Berman, the law firm that filed the original class action lawsuit in 2012 and still represents the consumer class, tells PL in response […]
