Acquisitions: Sourcebooks Takes Over Little Pickle Press; Firebrand Acquires Enthrill

Sourcebooks has acquired the publishing rights to the list of nonfiction children’s publisher Little Pickle Press from parent company March 4, expanding the nonfiction program of Sourcebooks’ Jabberwocky imprint. Little Pickle Press will live as an imprint under Jabberwocky, which will make the approximately 25 frontlist and backlist titles available as of February 1, and publish new titles as of 2018. A group of over 160 children’s book authors and illustrators have signed on to a letter to Simon & Schuster ceo Carolyn Reidy objecting to the house’s book deal with Milo Yiannopoulos. The effort began as a conversation among Erin Murphy Literary Agency clients under contract with Simon & Schuster and “quickly became a national dialogue across agencies and genres.” They write, in part: “Threshold has placed Simon & Schuster’s considerable reputation and weight behind one of the most prominent faces of the newly repackaged white supremacist/white nationalist movement and financially supported a man who routinely denigrates, verbally attacks, and directs dangerous internet doxxing and hate campaigns against […]

Former Register of Copyrights Maria Pallante will join the Association of American Publishers on January 17 as the new president and ceo of the organization, taking over following the planned retirement of Tom Allen. Bookselling: Pittsburgh’s City of Asylum Opens Storefront; Newport, VT’s Wider Than the Sky to Close

Pittsburgh nonprofit City of Asylum, which is devoted to writers in exile, will open its new bookstore on Saturday, January 14. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the store will offer a “carefully curated selection of 8,000 volumes by authors from all over the world” in a renovated Masonic hall now called Alphabet City. “It was a lot of fun to put this collection together,” noted store manager Lesley Rains, who previously owned East End Book Exchange in Bloomfield, PA.
