He says, “The process of building Quercus from scratch has been hugely rewarding, but also utterly consuming. Penguin Random House Buys Hind Pocket Books in India

Penguin Random House India has acquired Hind Pocket Books, founded in 1958 and “widely considered as pioneer in publishing Hindi and Urdu paperbacks in India,” as the Times of India puts it. PRH India says the acquisition “will build further on [their] presence in local language publishing, to which it has been committed for over a decade,” since Penguin started a Hindi program in 2005. Vaishali Mathur, who has been responsible for Indian language publishing and rights at Penguin Random House India, will now serve as editor-in-chief of Hind Pocket Books, while continuing to build her English language list. John Siciliano has been promoted to executive editor for Penguin Books. He continues as executive editor for Penguin Classics. Remy Cawley has joined Nation Books as an assistant editor. Cawley was formerly at Norton. Longtime president of sales at Macmillan Alison Lazarus will leave there after over 20 years to join Hachette Book Group as evp, director of sales on August 6. She will report to ceo Michael Pietsch and join the company’s executive management board.
