John Siciliano has been promoted to executive editor for Penguin Books. He continues as executive editor for Penguin Classics.
Remy Cawley has joined Nation Books as an assistant editor. Cawley was formerly at Norton.
Michelle Obama‘s Facebook page features a video with remarks from her recent appearance at the ALA’s annual conference in New Orleans, talking about her forthcoming book: “It’s a its rehumanization effort…. It’s the ordinariness of a very extraordinary story. I hope that by telling it that it makes others..to feel the pride in their story in the way I feel about mine… I am not a unicorn. There are millions of kids like me out there.”

In the UK, founder of Igloo Books John Styring and Briony Britten started a new publisher in April, Bookoli, creating books and products for children aged five and under, set to launch in the fall. Now, they are pairing with Australian publisher Hinkler in a joint venture to form a mass market publisher called Curious Universe UK. Styring says in the announcement, “With our experience in running a leading mass market publisher from here in the UK, and the creative genius and wealth of successful products from Hinkler, we believe the Curious Universe UK brand will be a very strong proposition. The Bookoli and Hinkler lists very much complement each other and we are excited to be working together to build a new one-stop-shop for children’s and adults books and stationery.”
