New Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk will appear at tomorrow’s Frankfurt Book Fair opening press conference to “talk about the political responsibility of authors.”

At Simon & Schuster: Karen Fink has been promoted to field account manager, Lauren Castner moves up to manager, special markets, and Taylor Kwok is now coordinator, special markets.

Chris White has been promoted to editorial director at Scribner UK.

Celeste Ward-Best is joining Little Brown UK as deputy marketing director, literary. She was previously with Cornerstone and Canongate. Gemma Shelley has been promoted to deputy marketing director, commercial.

Richard Jackson, 84, author and former editor at Simon & Schuster Children’s who “changed the landscape of literature for young people,” died on October 2 in Towson, MD. He published books by Judy Blume, Paula Fox, Virginia Hamilton and more.

Imprints
Former president and publisher of Regnery Publishing Al Regnery and founder of distributor Midpoint Trade Books Eric Kampmann have founded Republic Books, which will publish “right-of-center” titles.

Bookselling
Barnes & Noble will be vacating their 25,000-square-foot store in North Charleston, SC, likely in February 2020, as a grocer has reportedly signed a lease to take over the property.
