Literary agent Charles “Chuck” Verrill died on January 9 after a long illness. After working as an editor at Viking, Verrill joined Liz Darhansoff’s agency and became a partner in 1991. Verrill was best known as Stephen King’s longtime agent and editor. King wrote on Twitter, “It leaves a huge hole. I loved the guy.” Darhansoff & Verrill will continue to carry his name, and a memorial service will be held later this year. “We’ll so miss his wise counsel and sardonic wit,” Liz Darhansoff said in a statement.

Sterling Publishing Relaunches As Union Square & Co.
Sterling Publishing will rebrand its core titles and expand its publishing program, under the new name of Union Square & Co., as promised when Barnes & Noble hired Emily Meehan as the division’s chief creative officer and publisher a year ago. (The moniker has history for BN: Union Square Press was a narrative nonfiction imprint at Sterling started by Philip Turner in 2007.) “Select” titles will release in spring 2022, with its first “comprehensive” list coming in fall 2022. Quarto’s Controlling Owner Adds Shares
CK Lau remains a buyer of shares in Quarto: His company 1010 Printing Limited has acquired another 1.343 million shares in the publisher recently, now owning 44.52 percent of the company. (Lau owns additional shares personally, about a 4 percent stake last we saw a disclosure.)
