ESPN media network Andscape is launching a book imprint with Disney Publishing Worldwide called Andscape Books. The imprint will publish 30 books a year, covering “narrative non-fiction and memoir genres, in addition to a line of young adult and children’s titles.” The first list will contain eight titles, launching with NFL journalist Jason Reid’s Rise of the Black Quarterback, a history of Black NFL players planned for August 2. Disney Publishing editorial director Jennifer Levesque will lead the imprint, with Kelli Martin, Disney Publishing executive editor, also acquiring and editing. Both will work with Andscape editor in chief Raina Kelley.

M&A: Sterling Acquires Boxer Books
Sterling Publishing completed a deal to acquire London-based children’s book publisher Boxer Books. The acquisition includes all of Boxer’s backlist and frontlist titles. The imprint will keep its name under Union Square & Co., which previously distributed Boxer Books in the US. Former Washington Football Player’s Memoir Canceled
Atria is “not proceeding with the publication” of Robert Griffin III’s memoir about playing for Washington, DC’s football team, a spokesperson confirmed to PL. Slated to publish on Aug 16, Surviving Washington was described as “detailing the shocking mismanagement and toxic culture within the most dysfunctional professional football team in America.” DC sports radio station WJFK-FM reports that tweets about the book from Griffin and coauthor Gary Myers have been deleted. The book page has disappeared from the S&S website and BN.com. A source told the radio station that Griffin had “second thoughts” about the book.

Amazon to Close Physical Bookstores
Amazon announced they would close all of their physical bookstores, as well as pop-up shops and home goods stores, in the US and UK. An Amazon spokesperson said: “We’ve decided to close our Amazon 4-star, Books, and Pop Up stores, and focus more on our Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, Amazon Go, and Amazon Style stores and our Just Walk Out technology.
