Initiatives: Open Road to Promote MG and YA Hardcovers

As part of their Activation service to promote frontlist titles to their subscribers, Open Road Integrated Media will launch the Fall Hardcover Discovery Initiative for hardcover middle grade and young adult titles. Participating publishers can choose up to five titles to be featured on the company’s websites and newsletters. Fight for Control of Booktopia Continues as Directors Resign

Four independent directors on the board of Australian retailer Booktopia announced their resignations yesterday, after former ceo and continuing shareholder Tony Nash called a meeting to remove two of them. In a release, the company says that the board has been negotiating the “board composition” with Nash since he made the announcement in August. “The two priorities for these discussions have been having a quality independent board and ensuring a good transition and stability for the company. Distribution: Dark Horse Comics, Callisto Media, S&S

In an expansion of their current agreement, Penguin Random House Publisher Services will sell and distribute Dark Horse Comics‘ front- and backlist comic books, graphic novels, and manga to the Direct Market comic shops worldwide starting June 1, 2023. PRHPS currently sells and distributes Dark Horse’s trade books to bookstores. Simon & Schuster will take over distribution of Callisto Media as of March 1, 2023, moving from Ingram Publisher Services. Judge Florence Pan Elevated to Higher Court

As expected, the Senate confirmed the elevation of Judge Florence Pan — who is currently deciding the PRH-SS antitrust trial — to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. It has not yet been announced when Judge Pan will assume her new role, or what effect the news will have on the timing of her antitrust trial ruling.
