Tor Publishing Group announced that it is launching Bramble, a new imprint “dedicated to a wide array of romantic stories for the modern reader.” Monique Patterson will join as vp, editorial director, effective February 27, and will report to president and publisher Devi Pillai. Indigo Books & Music’s website remains down after the company experienced a cybersecurity incident on Feb 8. According to the Vancouver Sun, stores can now process cash, debit, and credit card transactions, but aren’t able to process returns or gift card purchases. “Sources” confirm to Reuters that Paramount Global has begun shopping Simon & Schuster again through a financial adviser. Liontree advised the company on the sale to Penguin Random House that was blocked by the court. On Wednesday Barnes & Noble opens a new, modestly-sized 7,000-square-foot store in the Paddock Shops in Louisville, KY, a day after they close a much larger 25,000-square-foot store in the same shopping center. Separately, another longtime BN in Rochester Hills, MI closed on Sunday after 27 years in that location.
Indie Authors Sign Petition Against Amazon’s KDP Select Policy
Over 28,000 people have signed a petition to “stop the unfair removal of titles on Amazon” as a result of the retailer’s Kindle Direct Publishing Select policy. The policy states that work that is part of KDP Select must not be digitally published elsewhere. The petition claims the books being removed have sometimes been stolen and pirated: “Many authors follow this rule closely, but Amazon refuses to acknowledge the part they play in the theft and redistribution of authors’ publications online.” The signatories are asking for Amazon “to change their current process for authors that allegedly infringe” on the policy; […]
