Group managing director for the Adult Commercial Divisions Kate Elton has been named interim ceo, with responsibility for the UK and Ireland. Obituary: Chuck Adams
Longtime book editor Chuck Adams has died. He worked at Algonquin for 17 years, where one of his earliest acquisitions was Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants, and he was presented with the Poets & Writers’ Editor’s Award in 2013. After retiring from Algonquin, he continued to work as a freelance editor. He started his publishing career at Holt, Rinehart and Winston, first taking editorial assignments at Dell and then Simon & Schuster, where he worked with Joseph Heller, Mary Higgins Clark, James Lee Burke, Clive Cussler, Sandra Brown, and Jackie Collins, among many others. Quirk Books Is Sold to Andrews McMeel
Quirk Productions, which has been on an acquisitions pause since early this summer after “facing marketplace and operational challenges for the past few years,” has been acquired by Andrews McMeel Publishing, effective October 1. Quirk founder and publisher Dave Borgenicht will serve as publisher of the Quirk Books imprint of Andrews McMeel Publishing, reporting to ceo Kirsty Melville. Sales and distribution of the Quirk titles will remain with Penguin Random House Publisher Services.
