Toronto’s Transatlantic Literary Agency has added three agents. Meghan Macdonald will work part-time, growing a list of adult fiction and non-fiction clients. She worked for David Grossman before joining TLA. Patricia Ocampo will represent children’s authors, after working in editorial at Harper Children’s and in sales and marketing at Hachette Book Group Canada. Amy Tompkins will share representation of international rights sales for Orca Book Publishers with Samantha Haywood and take over when Haywood goes on maternity leave.
Author Stephenie Meyer has made two unusual appearances. She joined the cast of Breaking Dawn at a press conference in Los Angeles and at cement ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese, and she has a cameo in the new movie, observing the wedding of Bella and Edward.
In the UK, Angry Robot has hired Amanda Rutter to run a new YA imprint, Strange Chemistry, starting in December. The line will launch in September 2012 with a starting list of five titles, and will then publish a title a month. As with Angry Robot, they’ll publish simultaneously in the US and UK, focusing on fantasy, science fiction, supernatural and horror.

Marvelous Mike Edwards, the last captain who rode Borders down to the bottom of the sea, is returning to the apparel industry. He is joining small Portland, OR-based start-up Wicked Quick as chairman. Edwards had run another Portland clothier, lucy activewear, before it was sold to VF Corporation.
