People, Etc.: Sand Named Abrams Publisher; Hachette UK Merges Piatkus and C&R

August 19, 2014By Michael Cader

Little, Brown executive editor Michael Sand will join Abrams as vp, publisher, adult trade as September 22. He has been at Little, Brown since 2006. Abrams ceo Michael Jacobs says in the announcement: “Michael Sand is the perfect candidate to continue to envision, shape, and drive our adult editorial programs at Abrams. In addition to his consummate editorial skill and taste, Sand is an expert on and adept at nonfiction publishing with a focus on narrative, biography, memoir, art, and photography, as well as lifestyle and, especially, cooking and food. His skills and taste are a rare mix in today’s trade books environment.”

At Penguin, Bob Wojciechowski was promoted to vp, production, Penguin Adult.

Christina Noriega has joined Ryland, Peters & Small + CICO Books as sales director.

At P.S. Literary Agency, Carly Watters has been promoted to vp, senior literary agent.

In the UK, Little Brown UK is merging Piatkus and the recently-acquired Constable & Robinson lines into a single Piatkus Constable Robinson division — except for the Corsair imprint, which remains separate, under publisher James Gurbutt. Tim Whiting is publisher of the division, reporting to David Shelley, and Gurbutt reports to Shelley as well. Krystyna Green has been promoted to publishing director of Constable Crime. [The original version incorrectly listed Quercus instead of Piatkus.]
