At Penguin Random House, head of global corporate finance Milena Alberti is being promoted to chief financial officer as July 1, succeeding Coram Williams as he returns to Pearson as their CFO. Alberti will join the Penguin Random House board of directors, as well as the company’s North American board and global executive committee. James Johnston is being promoted to the new position of svp, deputy chief financial officer under Alberti, serving in both worldwide and U.S. capacities.
Kate Geraghty has been promoted to vp, communications for Macmillan Higher Education and Macmillan New Ventures.
At Grand Central Publishing, Caitlin Mulrooney-Lyski has been promoted to associate director of publicity.
Declan Taintor has joined Picador as senior publicist. He was previously at powerHouse Books.
Chriscynethia Floyd will join David C Cook as vp of sales & marketing for books and new media at David C Cook on July 6. Most recently she was vp of marketing for the trade group at Harper Christian and vp of marketing for Zonderkidz.
British music company Rough Trade will feature monthly Melville House events in their flagship US store in Williamsburg, along with dedicated display space for Melville House titles and merchandise as part of a new corporate partnership.
Hawthorne Books has been acquired by Dzanc Books, which will operate it as an imprint. Hawthorne founder Rhonda Hughes will serve as Dzanc’s director of marketing and publicity, based in Portland, OR.

An important addendum to yesterday’s report on unit sales data from Nielsen Bookscan: The primary reason for higher unit sales totals for 2013 and 2014 over prior years is that the service started incorporating sales from Wal-Mart, which are quite significant, as of the beginning of 2013.
