Nicole Russo has been hired as director, children’s marketing and publicity for Abrams Children’s, Amulet, and Appleseed. Previously she was deputy director of publicity at Simon & Schuster Children’s. In addition, Paul Colarusso has been named marketing manager for the adult trade division. Previously he was a marketing manager at the Aperture Foundation. The new Atria imprint that Dawn Davis will run will be named 37 Ink (for the 37th parallel north).

Seale Ballenger will move to Disney Publishing on July 8 as publicity director. He has been director of marketing and publicity at Zola Books. James MacNevin will join McGill-Queen’s University Press on August 1 as acquisitions editor. Most recently he was acquisitions editor at Canadian Scholars’ Press in Toronto. Former Chicago Sun-Times books editor Henry Kisor reports on his blog that the newspaper will discontinue their books coverage. Librarians to Create Monthly List of Top 10 Recommended LibraryReads
There is a wave of library-related press releases with the ALA’s annual conference and exhibition starting today in Chicago (and running through July 2). The new distribution “affiliate” of Publishers Group West run by Mark Suchomel, Legato Publishers Group, announced 20 publishers that have signed on as clients. All will start with Legato on January 1, 2014, except for Buffalo Media Works, which will use Legao to sell and distribute their books immediately. All 20 also have been clients of IPG, where Suchomel worked for 27 years until he was dismissed in March.
