IPA Officer Under Attack In Egypt
The International Publishers Association reported in an e-mail this morning that the organization’s vice president Ibrahim El Moallem “is under attack, physically,” right now. “Ibrahim says that the people on the street have gathered before his publishing house, Dar El Shorouk. They are defending him.” The IPA will post bulletins via @ipasecretary on Twitter.

The Cairo Book Fair, set to have opened last Saturday, was not officially cancelled but as you would expect, the event “has been abandoned, with many foreign exhibitors left stranded after failing to secure flights to take them out of the country,” the Guardian writes. China was supposed to be the guest of honor, but withdrew their delegation last week. Announcements: Murakami’s 1Q84 Has a US Pub Date; FCIC Chipped in $40K In Shipping Costs; and More
Knopf has announced that all three volumes of Haruki Murakami‘s novel 1Q84 will be published as a single, 928-page book on October 25. The first two volumes were translated by Jay Rubin and the third by Philip Gabriel, and the combined edition will have a hardcover list price of $30 and an e-book edition published simultaneously. The UK edition of 1Q84 will not include the third volume, but will be published around the same time.
