Grand Central Publishing senior editor Natalie Kaire will move over to Stewart, Tabori & Chang as a senior editor on December 15, acquiring cookbooks and food narratives. Ellen Towell has been hired as sales manager, North America for Weldon Owen Australia, with responsibility for selling the books created and produced by the book packager’s Sydney publishing office into the North American market. She will work out of their San Francisco office. Most recently Towell was a sales rep for Karel/Dutton Associates.

Spain and Spanish publishing will be the focus of BEA’s Global Market Forum program in 2010. Programs will include a day of educational sessions, and BEA is “seeking cooperation with numerous literary and cultural institutions in New York City to provide programming which extends beyond the convention center and will be open to the public.” They say they are in discussions with the 92nd St. Y, the New York Public Library, the Brooklyn Public Library, and others. Longtime Random House executive Bonnie Ammer has resigned as evp, international sales, effective December 31. That department reports to newly-appointed president of sales, operations and digital, Madeline McIntosh. Previously Ammer was publisher-at-large, after serving as president and publisher of Fodor’s and running the Random House Information Group. Bookselling: Borders UK In Bankruptcy; Another Gay and Lesbian Store to Close; Update On Elliott Bay
As expected, Borders UK filed for “administration” (the UK equivalent of bankruptcy) last week, with the firm MCR overseeing the process after another company, BDO, pulled out at the last minute citing an unspecified conflict. Stores started offering discounts immediately thereafter to help sell off existing merchandise while employees and publishers wait to see if anyone is interested in buying part or all of the chain.
