Melville House is creating a UK-based operation. Zeljka Marosevic, formerly of Fourth Estate, will run Melville House UK. Dennis Johnson tells the Bookseller the unit “would at first concentrate on marketing its 60 frontlist titles, as well as selected backlist, distributed in Britain through Turnaround.” He hopes to hire an editorial director before the end of the year with the aim of “crafting a list distinct from that of the US company.” Abrams has partnered with Galison Publishing to launch a line of Wimpy Kid gift and stationery products. Jonathan Cape Children‘s, which has been publishing new picture books and backlist titles by Roald Dahl and Joan Aiken, will now publish new fiction, led Random House Children’s UK publisher Annie Eaton. Amazon Publishing Adds A Literary Imprint, Little A
Amazon Publishing will now publish literary fiction, story collections, and memoir under what they are calling a new literary imprint, Little A. That imprint will also publish a digital-only series “focused on short stories from debut writers” in North America and the UK under a separate moniker, Day One. The launch titles for Little A include A.L. Kennedy’s just-published THE BLUE BOOK, Alison Lynn’s THE EXILES (July) and James Franco’s ACTORS ANONYMOUS (10/15). Imprints: Little Brown UK Tries Literary Digital Line; Atria Reannounces Rachael Ray Books
Little Brown UK is expanding their digital imprints (which include Crime Vault and Piatkus Entice) with a line focused on literary fiction, Blackfriars. It launches in July and aims to publish nine to 12 titles a year, under the direction of Abacus publishing director Clare Smith and Virago associated publisher Ursula Doyle. One of their first titles is Benjamin Anastas’s memoir TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, which received some good reviews in the US, but suffered under the limitations of Amazon Publishing.
