Soho Press is launching a new horror imprint called Hell’s Hundred. The publisher writes that the imprint, which will join Soho Crime, Soho Press, and Soho Teen, derives its name from New York City’s SoHo neighborhood: “Decades before evolving into an artistic hotbed, the desolate area was infamously known as ‘Hell’s Hundred Acres,’ a dangerous industrial district often brimming with flames.” The imprint will publish its first two titles, E. Judy Clain will join Simon & Schuster on January 16 as senior vice president and publisher of a relaunched Summit Books imprint, reporting to ceo Jonathan Karp. Clain has been editor-in-chief at Little, Brown since 2011, where she has worked since 1998. Summit Books was active from 1976 to 1991 and published Elie Wiesel, Marilyn French, James Baldwin, and Oliver Sacks. Isaac Peterson, and Jessica Hammerman have launched a new independent publisher called Green City Books based in Bend, OR. Distributed by Publishers Group West, Green City “plans to publish between six and twelve titles a year, focusing on original voices in fiction and nonfiction, and creating a platform for artistic vision and excellence in the craft of writing.” Peterson, whose background is in design, and Hammerman, an editor who previously worked at Putnam and Norton as well as several magazines, will serve as publishers. Bloom Books Scales to $100 Million; Print Sales Rise In November
Less than three years after its founding, Sourcebooks’ Bloom Books imprint is having a banner year, on track to finish 2023 with almost $100 million in gross sales worldwide according to the company. That has to make the line among the fastest-growing new imprints ever. In outlets tracked by Circana Bookscan, Bloom Books has sold 6.4 million print units so far in 2023, rocketing up from just under 1 million units the same time a year ago. Saga Press Expands, Moves to S&S Flagship Imprint
Saga Press announced that it will expand, adding staff members and moving to the S&S flagship imprint from the Gallery group beginning in 2024. Editorial director Joe Monti will report to Tim O’Connell, vice president and editorial director of fiction at Simon & Schuster. Saga Press plans to double its number of titles by 2026.
