Former Penguin Random House US CEO Madeline McIntosh and her partners officially announced the new publishing company they have working on in stealth mode for some time. Called Authors Equity, it is founded along with former Macmillan CEO Don Weisberg (who serves as senior advisor) and former PRH president of strategic development Nina von Moltke (who is president). Soho Press is launching a new horror imprint called Hell’s Hundred. The publisher writes that the imprint, which will join Soho Crime, Soho Press, and Soho Teen, derives its name from New York City’s SoHo neighborhood: “Decades before evolving into an artistic hotbed, the desolate area was infamously known as ‘Hell’s Hundred Acres,’ a dangerous industrial district often brimming with flames.” The imprint will publish its first two titles, E. Judy Clain will join Simon & Schuster on January 16 as senior vice president and publisher of a relaunched Summit Books imprint, reporting to ceo Jonathan Karp. Clain has been editor-in-chief at Little, Brown since 2011, where she has worked since 1998. Summit Books was active from 1976 to 1991 and published Elie Wiesel, Marilyn French, James Baldwin, and Oliver Sacks. Isaac Peterson, and Jessica Hammerman have launched a new independent publisher called Green City Books based in Bend, OR.
