Agents, editors, authors and others kindly continue to direct writers to join PublishersMarketplace.com. To help those members make the most of our resources, we have finally posted a Writer’s Guide to PM, answering a number of frequently asked questions about researching agents, deals and more. But this is just a start; we welcome your additional tips and tricks — as well as things you would like writers to know to use PM responsibly and effectively. Let us know your thoughts at info@publishersmarketplace.com, thanks.
Publishers Marketplace Tips
Real Sales Data, Broadly Accessible
We’ve had a great reception to our latest initiative opening up access to real book sales from Bookscan. It’s been a little over a month since we launched affordable monthly subscriptions to a limited package of NPD Bookscan sales data, that lets qualified members follow or research up to 5 different ISBNs a month. (Our Bookscan sales offer are available only to agents, scouts and authors.) Now anyone can afford to research and follow industry-standard book sales data whenever needed. For each ISBN, you’ll see actual, tracked US print sales for the most recent week, the year to date, and […]
A New Way for Agents and Authors to View Bookscan Sales Data
For a long time we have helped level the playing field and provided transparency by offering agents, scouts and authors unlimited access to the NPD Bookscan database of book sales through annual subscriptions (along with an optional upgrade to view the PubTrack Digital ebook sales database). Now we are taking that further with a new program that provides an affordable monthly subscription to a limited package of sales data, that lets qualified members follow or research up to 5 different ISBNs a month. For each ISBN, you’ll see actual, tracked US print sales for the most recent week, the year […]
One Last Offer
As we did around Thanksgiving, we are opening up PublishersMarketplace.com for a brief free trial, lasting through January 1 — which will be the last opportunity like this for quite some time, so feel free to share if you wish. And, as we noted before the holidays, PM members can load the simple PM News App on your mobile devices if you want to keep an eye on Lunch News, Deals, Automat stories, Jobs and more over the holidays. (The URL is m.publishersmarketplace.com.)
Take Us With You
One more pre-holiday message. As usual, Publishers Lunch will be suspended for a bit, while PublishersMarketplace.com remains open all the time and will be logging deals, news, jobs and other items as they come in, albeit at a more leisurely pace. (14 new jobs were posted this week alone if you are in the market for something new next year.) We expect to send one catch-up issue of the newsletter at the end of next week unless something compelling happens in the meantime. The best way to stay on top of things is always with a PublishersMarketplace.com membership: We still have […]
Password Changes (and Please Change Your Password)
Members may remember that earlier this year we revamped our password system at Publishers Marketplace, allowing longer passwords and special characters and switching to a more secure way of resetting passwords via an online link (so that your data is never exposed via email). As previewed at the time, we’re now rolling in the final phase of that transition — a gentle requirement that passwords be updated every six months. (Many members have not updated their passwords in…years, and you’ll recall we just marked the site’s 17th anniversary.) The system will prompt you when it’s time to refresh your password, […]
