UK bookseller Blackwell’s is in talks with buyers, after canceling plans to transfer ownership of the 18-store chain to staff. The company has been owned by the same family since the founding of its first store in Oxford 1879. Accounting firm Begbies Traynor has been appointed to oversee the sale. Plans to hand the store over to the staff were reportedly disrupted by the pandemic. Bookselling: Uncle Hugo’s and Uncle Edgar’s
Minneapolis mystery and science fiction bookstore Uncle Hugo’s and Uncle Edgar’s, which burned down in 2020 during the George Floyd protests, has found a new location. Owner Don Blyly will close on purchasing the new building on March 24 and plans to reopen the stores in June.

Starbucks to Give Out 1M eBooks of Netflix Book Club Title
As part of its partnership with the Netflix Book Club, Starbucks will give away a million free ebooks of Sweet Magnolias: Feels like Family by Sherryl Woods, the February book club pick. (The second season of the Sweet Magnolias series begins streaming February 4.) Customers who receive emails from Starbucks or the Netflix Book Club will receive a code to download the title through Google Play starting today. According to the publisher, “It’s the standard Mira ebook edition sold to Starbucks for premium distribution to its customers.”
