Further to our report about the 50 stores Barnes & Noble plans to open in 2024, the company clarified that three will be relocations and the rest will be “new-to-market or in markets we exited at an earlier time/date due to lease expirations.” They have signed leases on 43 locations so far. Barnes & Noble Expects to Open 50 New Stores in 2024
As Barnes & Noble continues to announce new store openings for this fall, the company has updated their standard press release language with a significant addition: “The bookseller expects to open…over 50 [new bookstores] in 2024.” As with the 30 or more stores the company expects to have opened in 2023, there is no indication of how many of those locations might be new stores, and how many are replacement stores for recent or existing locations. Indigo’s Q2 Falls Below Last Year’s Strong Result
Indigo released results for the second quarter of their fiscal year, ended September 30, reporting $207 million in sales, down 12 percent from the previous year, and a loss in adjusted EBITDA of $(13.8) million, compared to $(10.6) million. Net loss during the quarter was $(22.4) million, compared to a net loss of $(15.9) million in the previous year.
