Harper Lee Estate Sues Broadway Producers Over Aaron Sorkin’s Mockingbird Adapation

The forthcoming stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, scripted by Aaron Sorkin and produced by Scott Rudin, is slated to open on Broadway this fall. The production’s opening is now in question after Harper Lee’s estate — represented by Tonja B. Carter — sued Rudin’s production company Rudinplay in an Alabama Federal court, claiming that Sorkin’s script violates an agreement that “the play shall not derogate or depart in any manner from the spirit of the novel nor alter its characters.” Harper Lee licensed Rudin an option to produce a new stage adaptation of MOCKINGBIRD on June […]

Barnes & Noble Preserves Their Dividend, Investors Respond

After warning on their quarterly earnings investor call that the company board would “review the upcoming dividend payment,” Barnes & Noble announced Wednesday after the close of the market that the board had in fact approved another standard dividend of 15 cents a share. After approving a budget for fiscal 2019, which begins in the middle of this calendar year, the company also declared guidance of EBITDA “in a range of $175 million to $200 million” for the coming year. On Sunday, a spokesperson at Hachette Book Group indicated in a statement that the planned April 24 release of the paperback edition of Sherman Alexie’s memoir You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me has been postponed “at Mr. Alexie’s request.” The company said: “We were surprised and troubled to hear the allegations that have recently emerged, and are concerned about the distress this situation has caused so many. We’re encouraged that Sherman Alexie has apologized to those he has hurt and has dedicated himself, as he’s said, to becoming ‘a healthier man who makes healthier decisions.'” The company added, “We will be keeping Mr. […]
